Mummies

A mummy is the preserved remains of a creature - usually a human - which is usually preserved through either intentional or accidental exposure to certain chemicals, extreme cold, very low humidity, or lack of air, in order to prevent the body from decaying beyond a certain point. The most popular mummies are those from Ancient Egypt. Although not as common as other undead monsters, they are still one of the staples of horror. A number of characters have been mummies, and they occasionally appear in fantasy-themed media.
