"Cherche le phantom" is the twenty-eighth installment of The Inspector. It is inspired by the 1910 French novel The Phantom of the Opera and its adaptations to other media. It was released to theaters on June 13, 1968.
Inspector Clouseau and Sergeant Deux-Deux are assigned by the Surete Commissioner to investigate reports of a phantom in the Paris Opera house. After a series of misadventures, they learn that the "phantom" is actually a playful ape that loves opera music.
