Doctor Sleep is a 2019 horror movie. It is based on Stephen King's 2013 novel of the same name and is the sequel to the 1980 movie The Shining.
Plot[]
In 1980, Danny Torrance and his mother Wendy escaped from the Overlook hotel after his father Jack tried to murder them, but Danny is still being haunted by the ghosts of the Overlook. He's visited by the ghost of Dick Hallorann, who teaches Danny how to trap the ghosts with his mind.
In 2011, Danny now all grown up is a recovering alcoholic, he gets a job at a hospice, where he comforts all who are about to die, so their souls can be in peace.
In 2019, Danny befriends a 13 year old girl named Abra Stone, who also has the shining, but hers is so powerful, she attracts an evil cult of centuries old people known as the True Knot, who feed on children with the shining, the cult is led by Rose the Hat, who first noticed Abra after she used her powers to witness the True Knot murdering a baseball boy with the shining.
Danny must now save Abra from Rose and her cult before they take her life away. They have their final confrontation with Rose at the Overlook hotel.

- Director Mike Flanagan wanted the film to appeal to both fans of the original novel as well as fans of the Stanley Kubrick film. Instances of references to the 1980 Kubrick film include the Overlook hotel looking identical to the hotel seen in the original film, while book references include Jack Torrance saying, "Take your medicine ", a line he has in the original novel.
