The Dorothy costume is a very popular costume featuring Dorothy Gale from L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel, The Wizard of Oz, although it is almost exclusively made in her design in the classic 1939 film of the same name. It is most likely to be worn by girls. A common accessory to the ensemble is a small wicker picnic basket (although a regular basket will also work just as well) with a small terrier dog inside - this is usually a stuffed plush toy as opposed to a real dog.
