Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (also known as Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning) is a 1985 horror slasher film. It is a sequel to  the 1984 movie Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. It was directed by Danny Steinmann and written by Martin Kitrosser. It stars Melanie Kitrosser as Pam Roberts, John Shepherd as Tommy Jarvis, and Shavar Ross as Reggie. The movie is about the return of Jason Voorhees, now trying to get revenge against Tommy Jarvis, the boy who had killed him many years earlier, who is now constantly being haunted by nightmares of his past encounter with Jason.

The movie was a moderate box office success, having been made on a budget of $2,200,000 and earning more than $21,000,000. The film was originally banned in Singapore. It was rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. An uncut and unrated version has also been released in the United States. The film did not get a very good reaction from the critics. It has a 17% fresh rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes.

A sequel, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, was released in 1986.

Plot[]

Still haunted by a gruesome past, Tommy Jarvis the boy who killed Jason Voorhees wonders if somehow he is connected to brutal slayings occurring in and around the secluded halfway house where he now lives.

Trivia[]

Originally, the subtitle "A New Beginning" was intended to hint at the plan for Tommy Jarvis to become the "new Jason" to continue the series on, having gone completely insane by the end of the film; originally what would later be revealed to have been a sort of dream sequence (wherein Jarvis is stopped) at the very end of the film, he was supposed to instead actually kill Pam.

However, this planned plot twist was abandoned for the next movie when fans complained, wishing for Jason himself to make a return in the subsequent sequels. This complaint directly led to the resurrection of Jason as a zombie (intended to be tongue-in-cheek in the sixth film, which is directly hinted at in that movie by various dialogue bits). "Zombie Jason" would continue throughout the rest of the Friday the 13th series. Had the original plan for the movie series gone well with the fanbase, the producers would have brought back John Shepherd and Melanie Kinnaman for the direct sequel.
