Friday the 13th is a 1980 horror slasher movie directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller. It stars Betsy Palmer as Pamela Voorhees, Adrienne King as Alice Hardy, and Jeannine Taylor as Marcie Cunningham. It was the first movie in the Friday the 13th series and sqawned eleven sequals and one remake. The movie is mainly about a crazed mother trying to take revenge on the Camp Crystal Lake staff and residents, for accidentally letting her son drown in the lake while the camp counselors were too busy having sex.

The movie was a box office success, having been made on a budget of $550,000 and earning more than $39,000,000.

Friday the 13th was rated X by the Motion Picture Association of America when it was first released, the rating was later changed to R. An unrated and uncut version of the movie has also been released in the United States. The film was originally banned in Chile, Finland and Iceland.

The film went on to spawn ten sequels, the first of which, Friday the 13th Part 2, was released in 1981. The movie was remade in 2009.


Camp Counselors are stalked and murdurered by an unknown assailant while trying to reopen a summer camp that was the sight of a child's drowning.
