Hellraiser is a 2022 horror movie. It is a reboot of Clive Barker's 1987 film Hellraiser and depicts Pinhead accurately to Barker's novella The Hellbound Heart. The movie was released on the streaming platform Hulu on October 7, 2022.
This movie was the most well received Hellraiser movie since the original, as critics felt that after years of subpar sequel's, this was the movie that finally got the franchise back on the right track.
Plot[]
A homeless young man named Joey is invited to a party held at a mansion, held by a man named Roland Voight. Joey sees the lament configuration puzzle box and Voight instructs him to solve it. Joey solves the box, and it cuts him, chains then appear and pierce Joey's flesh.
Six years later, a woman who struggled with a drug addiction named Riley introduces her boyfriend Trevor to her brother Matt. Riley lives in the apartment with Matt, along with Matt's partner Colin, and her roommate Nora. Matt doesn't take a liking to Trevor. The following night, Trevor decides to rob an abandoned storage warehouse that belonged to a millionaire, Riley reluctantly joins him. The couple break into a shipping container, inside is an old chest. When they open the chest, they discover the lament configuration.
Later in the night, Riley returns home, but Matt kicks her out because he smells alcohol on her. She goes to a playground and opens the box, though it doesn't cut her. Riley then hears a voice telling her, "If not her, then another." Matt finds Riley passed out, and he cuts himself on the box trying to pick her up, Matt then goes to the restroom to clean off the blood, but he is then taken by the cenobites.
The next day, Riley tells Colin and Nora that Matt disappeared, believing that the box caused his disappearance. After she and Trevor learn who the storage belonged to, the couple goes to a living facility, where they meet Voights lawyer Serena. She correctly guesses that Riley solved the box, and she tries to take the box from Riley, but Riley still wants the box, hoping that she can still find Matt. Serena then gets cut by the boxes blade. Later at a hospital, Serena is killed by three cenobites, the Gasp, the Weeper, and the Asphyx.
Riley goes to Voights mansion to investigate. She finds journals about the lament configuration. In them, Riley learns that the box has six configurations, Lament represents life, Lore represents knowledge, Lauderant represents love, Liminal represents sensation, Lazarus represents resurrection, and Leviathan represents power. Each one is marked every time a victim is cut by the boxes blade, and that on completion, the wielder of the box is rewarded by Leviathan. She figures that she might save Matt by choosing the Lazarus configuration. Riley is then encountered by Matt's ghost. Riley tries to hug him, but his back turns into exposed flesh. Trevor, Colin, and Nora arrive after Trevor told them that Riley would be here, and they attempt to take Riley home.

Nora finds a secret passage in another room, she goes to explore it, but Trevor accidentally closes the entrance. As Trevor tries to rescue Nora, she is then stabbed by a mysterious figure. Riley, Colin, and Trevor find Nora wounded, and the four of them leave the mansion in Trevor's car. As they attempt to drive to a hospital, Nora finds herself in a labyrinth. While there, Nora is surrounded by two cenobites, the Masque and the Chatterer, she is then chained up and is encountered by Pinhead, the Hell Priestess of the Order of the Gash. She asks what Nora prays for, then Pinhead kills Nora with the chains. Riley sees Nora dead in the cars mirror and Trevor gets into a car crash. Nora's body then vanishes.
Riley, Trevor, and Colin go back to the mansion to take Riley's car. On their way, Riley is reminded by Pinhead that she has two more configurations to complete, and she can either sacrifice herself or two more victims. As they arrive back at the mansion, Pinhead sends her cenobites after Riley. Chatterer traps Riley and Trevor with the gate, however, Riley stabs Chatterer with the box, and chains begin to tear the Chatterer apart. Riley, Colin, and Trevor hide in the mansion and close the steel doors to lock Pinhead and her followers out. They then come up with a plan to lure one more cenobite out for Riley to stab it with the lament configuration.
The mysterious figure is revealed to by Voight, who paid Trevor to carry out the sacrifices with the box. Riley lures the Asphyx inside and traps him. Unfortunately, she accidentally drops the box. When Colin goes to get it, he is stabbed by Voight with the lament configuration. Voight explains that he sought new sensations after completing his sacrifices for the Order of the Gash, but the reward he got after choosing the Liminal configuration resulted in him being trapped in a contraption that twists his nerve endings, so he sought out to reverse the damage upon him. Voight then completes the configuration and traps each cenobite in the mansion.
As Voight is negotiating with Pinhead, Riley escapes and unlocks all the steel doors freeing the cenobites, Pinhead then approaches Voight. Riley finds Colin in the clutches of the Gasp, the Weeper, the Asphyx, the Mother, and the Masque, and as they're about to kill him, Riley demands that they stop and reminds them that she has one more sacrifice to choose instead of her. Riley then chooses a sacrifice, but she doesn't choose Colin. Riley stabs Trevor with the lament configuration after learning that he was paid by Voight, making him the final sacrifice. Trevor is then killed on the spot.
Voight successfully convinces Pinhead for a different reward, so she removes the contraption and restores Voights body. Pinhead rewards Voight with the Leviathan configuration, by having her God the Leviathan crash a large chain through Voights body, and it takes him to their realm despite his pleas. Riley then approaches Pinhead, and she offers Riley her choice of reward. Riley refuses a reward after seeing the cenobites gifts and figures that Matt is gone. Pinhead then informs Riley that she has chosen to live her life with her guilt and pain she caused to others, choosing the lament configuration. the box then reverts back to its original state and the cenobites disappear. Riley and Colin then leave the mansion safely.
In the final scene, Voight is in Hell and is being transformed into a new cenobite.
