Escargoon Squad (Known as Ghost of Castle Dedede in Japan) is the 13th episode of the anime Kirby Right Back at Ya! which is based on the Kirby video game series created by Hal Laboratory and Nintendo. The episode aired in Japan on December 22, 2001, and in North America on October 26, 2002.

Plot[]

Escargoon takes a picture of King Dedede, but after taking the picture, they notice that there's a ghost in the photo. The ghost's name is Urameshiya. They go to a fortune teller named Mable, who confirms that the ghost is real.

King Dedede later sees the ghost in person at the bridge that Waddle Doo was guarding, and later, Tiff, Lady Like, and Sir Ebrum tell Dedede and Escargoon that they themselves have been haunted by the ghost as well. Though Meta Knight wonders why it has not been haunting him as well.

Kirby and his friends later find Dedede in the wine cellar in a trap similar to Edgar Allen Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum, but then, Escargoon gives Kirby, Fololo, Falala, and Tuff candy and reveals that he was just pulling a prank on King Dedede. Mable was also in on it because Escargoon paid her to participate in the prank. Dedede gets angry and chases Escargoon and his squad, but then runs into a real ghost, who scares Dedede, then he runs into his vault and tries to pay the ghost to leave him alone. The ghost accepts the pay, as this ghost was just a monster sent by Nightmare Enterprises (Holy Nightmare in the Japanese version) in order to get Dedede to pay the bill he owes them. After this, Dedede tries to hit Escargoon, Kirby, and the others with his hammer as they run away in fear, and the episode ends.

Removed scene[]

In the English dub, the scene where King Dedede is dressed as a clown and chases Escargoon with a chainsaw is removed. The scene itself is a reference to many evil clowns in media, such as Pennywise the Dancing Clown from It and the clowns from Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
