"The Hook" is the twentieth story included in the book Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. The story originated as an urban legend, whose earliest known iterations can be found from the mid-1950s.
After having seen a movie, Donald and Sarah decide to drive up a hill and just sit and relax together. Then on the radio a reporter says that a murderer broke out of prison, he is armed with a knife and has a hook in place of one of his hands. Sarah wants to leave but Donald thinks that she is being a scaredy cat. They start to drive home when Sarah hears a scratch at her door. When Donald drops her off, they find a hook hanging on his car door.
