Scream (also known as Scream 5) is a 2022 horror movie and the fifth film in the Scream franchise, being a direct sequel to Scream 4. The movie was released in theaters on January 14, 2022. This movie was the first film to dethrone the box office hit Spider-Man: No Way Home (Though No Way Home reclaimed the top of the box office the following week).
Plot[]
In Woodsboro, Tara Carpenter gets attacked by Ghostface. Luckily, Tara survives and is taken to a hospital. Tara's sister Sam gets a call from Tara's friend Wes Hicks (The son of Judy Hicks), telling her about what happened to Tara. Sam and her boyfriend Richie Kirsch travel to Woodsboro to see Tara.
When they arrive, Sam and Richie meet Tara's other friends, including Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin (Who are the children of Randy Meek's sister Martha), Amber Freeman, and Liv McKenzie. Sam decides to stay with Tara at the hospital overnight.
Tara's friends run into Vince Schneider at a bar, but Vince later gets murdered by Ghostface. At the hospital, Sam tells Tara that she was responsible for their dad leaving their mom, after reading her mother's diary, and learning that she cheated on her boyfriend with Billy Loomis and got pregnant with Sam while she was with Billy. Ghostface then tries to kill Sam but she escapes. Sam also has hallucinations about Billy.
The next day, Sam and Richie go to see Dewey Riley, who is upset over his divorce from Gale Weathers. Dewey rejects helping Sam, later he calls Sidney Prescott (who is now married to Mark Kinkaid), and warns her not to come to Woodsboro. As for Gale, Dewey is too nervous to actually call her, so he texts her instead also warning her.
Dewey changes his mind and Sam, Richie, and Tara's friends meet up at Mindy and Chad's house, where Dewey tells them how to survive. Mindy also educates the gang about horror movie requels. Sam angrily leaves after they start to accuse her of being the killer. Ghostface murders Judy Hicks and her son Wes. Gale reports this and reunites with Dewey, who feels like a coward and felt it was his fault why he and Gale split up.

Sam, Richie, and Dewey go to the hospital fearing Tara would be next, Ghostface almost kills Tara, but Sam stops the killer just in time. When Dewey goes back to make sure the killer is dead, Ghostface murders Dewey, and feels honored for murdering a legacy character.
Sidney arrives in town, and comforts Gale over Dewey's death. Sam, Tara, and Richie decide to leave Woodsboro, but Sidney talks with Sam, saying she'll help her kill Ghostface. Sam declines her offer, so Sidney and Gale put a tracking device in Sam's car to make sure she's safe. Tara's inhaler is missing, so Richie decides to stop at the party held in honor of Wes's memory. The party is being held at Amber's house (Which was originally the house of Stu Macher).
When other kids leave the party, Mindy and Chad are attacked by Ghostface, and Tara is tied up upstairs. When Sam tries to figure out who the killer is, Amber shoots Liv dead, revealing her to be one of the killers. The other killer is Richie. They hold Sam, Sidney, and Gale hostage, and Richie says that the reason why he's doing this is because he is a huge fan of the Stab franchise and feels the sequels have been horrible in recent years. He also hates it when people accuse him of being a toxic Stab fan, so he and Amber met on a Stab fan reddit and planned a whole new killing spree in order to give Hollywood better source material for a new Stab movie. They plan on framing Sam and say she's doing this because she's the daughter of the original Ghostface killer, Billy Loomis. Luckily, Gale sets Amber on fire by shooting the oven, and Sam fights Richie. Richie almost kills her, but Sam outsmarts him and begins stabbing Richie into a gory mess until Richie finally passes away. Sam, Tara, Sidney, and Gale shoot Richie's corpse to make sure he's dead, but Amber comes back for one last scare before she's shot dead.
The news then reports the situation, Mindy and Chad survive and are taken to the hospital. Sam and Tara thank Sidney and Gale for their help, and Tara is taken to the hospital as well with Sam's company. Gale then tells Sidney that she's going to write a new book that pays tribute to Dewey.
