Shiver Me Timbers is a black and white Popeye short film that was released to theaters on July 27, 1934.
Plot[]
The short opens with Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Wimpy docking their boat and finding a ghost ship. Olive and Wimpy are not sure about climbing aboard, but Popeye tells them that there are no such things as ghosts. They all climb aboard, but they soon find themselves out at sea, and separated. Wimpy ends up finding some ghostly hamburgers instead of Popeye, who he and Olive are looking for, and Olive finds herself in a sticky situation. Popeye and Wimpy soon bump into each other, and then spot Olive, but covered in a sticky white substance making her look like a ghost. Popeye chases after the "ghost" with a stick and finally reveals it to be Olive. Popeye then reminds Wimpy he told him and Olive there are no such things as ghosts, but suddenly, the ghosts of the sailors aboard the ship appear and separate them once more. Popeye is seen swinging between the masts of the ship tied to a rope. Wimpy is chained to one of the masts and is trying to get a turkey on a table, but the table keeps moving away from him. And Olive is found tied by her wrists and ankles as a milk bottle drips milk onto her feet which draws forth some cats that lick Olive's feet. Popeye soon escapes his captivity and meets more of the ghost sailors. He manages to lock some in the freezer, and then meets some skeletons. After one of the masts falls, Popeye nervously grabs his can of spinach and eats. With his new invigorated strength and bravery, Popeye manages to beat the skeletons, and even punches the raging water and a storm cloud into subsiding. Popeye then takes the wheel of the ship, and sails him and his friends home.
