Slimer feeding freely at the Sedgewick Hotel.

Slimer, also known as The Green Ghost, Onionhead, Little Spud, King Remlis or The Ghost of John Belushi (depending on the source), was the first ghost that the Ghostbusters attempted to apprehend. He is made up of pure ectoplasm, and is considered a real nasty non-terminal repeating phantasm, or a Class 5 full roaming vapor.

Although his origins in life are nebulous at best (referred to as a former king sometimes and as John Belushi's ghost in others), what is known is that the entity now known as Slimer is a shy glutton who haunted the Sedgewick Hotel, inhabiting the 12th floor. Generally speaking his 'outings' as it were would be non-violent in nature, although he was certainly known to slime individuals with ectoplasm. He appears to have some form of telekinesis, as he has been witnessed dragging a food cart behind him without actually being in contact with it as well as successfully operating a city bus.

While he was initially successfully captured by the Ghostbusters (albeit with significant damage to the hotel) he was ultimately released again when the team were shut down and ended up possessing a hot dog cart before eventually spending time elsewhere, although he would eventually end up recaptured and placed within the paranormal containment research tank.

Slimer also figures prominently in the animated series The Real Ghostbusters and appears briefly in the 1989 film Ghostbusters II and the 2016 film Ghostbusters.

  • Slimer has been described as "The Ghost of John Belushi" by Dan Aykroyd in many interviews.
  • Slimer was later used as the mascot for the highly popular Hi-C Ecto Cooler flavor boxed juice drink. Interestingly, this drink long outlasted the other Ghostbusters' media and tie-ins, only being discontinued in 2007. With the new Ghostbusters movie coming out and with much in the way of fan petitions for Coca-Cola to do so, the trademark for this drink has been renewed.
