Terrifier is a horror movie originally shown at the Telluride film festival in October 2016. The movie was eventually released on home media and had a limited theatrical release in March 2018. Since its release, the film has been considered a cult classic. a sequel titled Terrifier 2 was released in October 2022.
Plot[]
A talk show host named Monica Brown invites a survivor of a massacre that happened one year prior to her show. The survivor is a woman with no face as it was eaten. After the show, Monica expresses how repulsive the woman was to her boyfriend on the phone. After she's done talking on the phone, the woman storms in and digs her fingers in Monicas eyes killing her.
On Halloween night, two friends named Tara and Dawn are leaving a Halloween party. While walking, they see a strange man in a clown costume known as Art the Clown. Tara is creeped out by Art, but Dawn jokes around about him. The two girls eat out at a Pizzaria, where Art follows them and stares at Tara. Art is kicked out by the manager after writing his name on the wall with feces. Tara and Dawn return to their car where they notice that the tires have been slashed. Tara calls her sister Victoria to come pick them up. Art later returns to the Pizzaria and kills the two employes.
Tara asks a pest control worker named Mike if she could use the bathroom at an old warehouse that he's working at, her request is granted. While trying to make her way out, Tara meets a crazy cat lady presumably living inside the warehouse. Outside, Dawn hears on the radio that the police are looking for a serial killer matching Art's description. Dawn turns around thinking Tara entered her car only for Art to be in the passenger seat grinning at her. When Tara makes it to the front door, she's greeted by Art, who chases her and slashes her ankle.
After Tara is subdued by Art, she awakens duck taped to a chair. Art teases Tara with weapons, then pulls off a sheet, revealing Dawn underneath naked and hung from her feet. Art takes a hacksaw and saws Dawns body in half. Tara escapes and fights Art, but before she can kill him, Art takes a gun from his shoe and shoots her to death. The cat lady sees this and finds Mike telling him to call the police. Mike leaves not believing her and is attacked by Art.
The cat lady sees Art holding a baby doll that she believes is her daughter named Emily. The cat lady tries to show compassion towards Art and hugs him. Victoria arrives looking for Tara and Dawn, where she discovers Dawns corpse. She flees in terror and finds the cat lady horribly mutilated. Art arrives wearing the cat lady's scalp and breasts and begins chasing after Victoria, he later decapitates Mike's co-worker. Later on, Art tries to suffocate Victoria with Ceran wrap, but she pokes a hole covering her mouth as well as stabbing Art's foot with a nail. Afterwards, she manages to flee.
Victoria finds Tara's body and starts to sob. Art creeps up behind Victoria and whips her back with a makeshift cat o' nine tails, Mike runs up to Art and knocks him unconscious. The two call 9-1-1, but Art wakes up and stomps Mike's head in with his big clown shoes. Victoria runs to a door which says Keep Out to hide from Art the clown. She hears police sirens and feels revived, unfortunately, Art hits Victoria with a pickup truck and he begins to eat her face. The police arrive but Art puts his gun in his mouth and commits suicide.
The police are surprised that Victoria is still alive and take her to the hospital. Meanwhile, Art's body is taken to the morgue, where he comes back to life and kills the medical examiner. One year later, Victoria is released from the hospital and is disfigured with no face, revealing that Victoria is the disfigured woman from the beginning of the movie. A flash of Art's bloody face can be seen before the credits roll.
