"The Gruesomes" is the ninth episode of the fifth season of The Flintstones. It originally aired on ABC on November 12, 1964.

A new creepy, very sinister-looking family has moved in at Bedrock, The Gruesomes. Weirdly, Creepela, their son Goblin (Gobby for short), Uncle Ghastly (whom is a disembodied hand), and the family pets, a spider named Schneider and an octopus named Occy. Their new home is right next door to the home of The Flintstones, Tombstone Manor, a dilapidated mansion that most kids leave alone. Fred gets a look at this new family, and finds that they ride around in a hearse. Soon, Fred and Barney are asked to look after Goblin while Weirdly and Creepela are away, but little do they know that they're in for a creepy, kooky, and rather spooky surprise.

  • The family is based on other monster families at the time, including The Addams Family and The Munsters, and they were inspired by another Hanna-Barbera horror themed family from the time, Mr. and Mrs. J. Evil Scientist.
