The Frighteners is a 1996 New Zealand comedy horror film. It was directed by Peter Jackson and stars Michael J. Fox.
The film was rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for depictions of graphic violence.
The Frighteners was not a box office success. The film's worldwide gross was slightly less than the $30,000,000 budget on which it was made. Peter Jackson believes that the movie's poor box office performance can be partly explained by the fact that its release in the United States clashed with that of the blockbuster Independence Day and the start of the Atlanta Summer Olympics.
Plot[]
